my background
My name is Jason, but most people know me as Flaco. I was born and raised in Rota, Spain before moving to Chesapeake, Virginia in 2011. Growing up I was quiet but always creative, whether it was school assignments or athletics. I competed in soccer as a midfielder and ran track specializing in the 100M and 200M. Those experiences taught me discipline and a drive that carried into everything I do today.
I grew up close with my mom and little brother and that tight knit foundation shaped who I am as a person and a creative. I always knew a traditional path was not for me. Now I am a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in Marketing with a minor in Sports Management, building FlacoVanGogh into something bigger than I ever imagined.
My experience
I started photography in October 2024 and since then I have had the opportunity to photograph a wide range of people and moments, from celebrities and sports teams to birthdays and graduations. Regardless of the setting I bring the same energy every time.
Before I ever picked up a camera I was already a creative. Video editing, production, graphic design, and social media management were all part of my foundation long before FLACOVANGOGH became a business. I am currently completing my Marketing degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, and my professional experience spans across industries. I have worked with a digital marketing agency serving health centers, covered sports teams including VCU Athletics and the Richmond Kickers, supported local organizations like Richmond Rhythm in producing and marketing their event, served as the official photographer for SWAPMEETRVA, and held executive board positions with Developing Men of Color at VCU.
All of these experiences have given me the ability to see every side of the creative industry and I bring that perspective to every project I take on.
